What is an Adjustment?
An adjustment is a specific force applied to a joint that is restricted thus allowing it to function properly.
Our major concern is the prevention of spinal decay or degeneration. When the spine and nervous system are malfunctioning due to physical, emotional or chemical trauma the body tries to stabilize affected areas. First there is inflammation and muscle spasm's, then over time, if left untreated, calcium deposits gather up, and bone grows around the joint. This is the primary cause of spinal decay, which will lead to nervous system malfunctioning.
There are four major components of your body that are affected from spinal decay. They are as follows:
- Joint Malfunction: When the spinal bones are out of position and have abnormal motion, this can lead to troubles in bending, turning and twisting, giving rise to stiffness and reduced range of motion.
- Muscle Impairment: Too many nerve impulses may make the muscles too tight, and may cause a spasm. If there are not enough nerve impulses going to the muscles, then the muscle may get too weak to function properly.
- Tissue Injury: Connective tissues (i.e. discs, ligaments etc) are affected by spinal decay. Discs separating the vertebrae can tear, bulge or become herniated. Blood and lymphatic fluid can collect, causing a rise in temperature. Swelling and/or tenderness may develop.
- Nerve Impingement: The nerves of the body can be pinched, rubbed, or elongated. Although often undetectable, this can cause pain, numbness and tingling. Your nervous system controls all the systems in your body (i.e. circulatory, immune, endocrine etc.). This interference may cause the information sent by your nerves to be reduced. If left uncorrected this will have a negative effect on the normal function of many if not all the systems in your body.
Dr. Bubak will adjust those areas that have become restricted to prevent or control this process of degeneration. He will ensure that all the joints in the spine function properly. He may also prescribe specific exercises to correct and stabilize certain areas to make sure it doesn’t happen again! Please note that this process can apply to any joint in the body.
Why Get Adjusted?
At Equilibrium Chiropractic, our goal is to work together with our patients to help them achieve the optimum health they are capable of.
The Definition of Health from the World Health Organization (WHO) is “not merely the absence of infirmary or disease, but a state of optimal well being.”
Through receiving regular adjustments, your body is free to function at its optimum level, free from nervous interference, which supports the healthy function of all of the other systems in your body. Getting regular tune-ups to your spine can ensure that your body is running smoothly in all areas!
Some people ask why you have to go back to the chiropractor, even when you are not hurting! Preventative care is the best measure you can take with your health, and it is a great gift to give your body! Making the shift from sick-care to actual health care will do wonders for you and your family!
Why Do Chiropractors Adjust the Spine?
Doctors of Chiropractic focus on the nervous system (the brain and spinal cord), which manages the body’s vast chemical interactions. The brain sends messages through the spinal cord across a huge network of spinal nerves to deliver information to every cell, organ and system of the body. This information system dictates all aspects of body function. When bones of the spine move out of their normal position, they can distort the flow of information from the brain to the body. Without the proper information from the nervous system, the body cannot function to its full potential. That’s why chiropractors gently correct these misalignments to correct interference with the nervous system.
Not Just the Spine!
Research has shown that Chiropractic can help in the prevention and treatment of Arthritis. The beginnings of arthritis can be detected as early as 3 days after a joint is injured. Any joint in your body can be affected, and chiropractic treatments can help! Chiropractors are trained to treat all muscles, joints and nerves in your body that may be injured.
